About
Founded in 1906 atop Buddo Hill, King's College Budo is one of Uganda's oldest and most prestigious secondary schools. Long associated with the Buganda monarchy, Budo has shaped generations of national leaders, scholars and public intellectuals.
A message
“At Budo we are guarded by a single conviction, that a great education is forged in equal measure by rigour, character and brotherhood. Our boys leave this hill not merely as scholars, but as servants of the nation that nurtured them.”

What this school emphasises
The Praecip verdict
Budo remains the gold standard for Uganda's male academic elite. The teaching cadre is deep, the alumni network unmatched in influence, and the boys-only boarding culture an effective accelerator for self-discipline and leadership.
Where Budo lags slightly is in newer learning infrastructure, STEM labs, technology-driven instruction, and modernised dormitories. Parents prioritising contemporary digital pedagogy may find more polish at younger private schools, but few can rival Budo's gravity in shaping public-life careers.

Parent reviews
We chose this school not only for its strong academics, but for the values it stands for, integrity, character, trust, and open communication. Our son is thriving here.
He is an excellent student and deeply involved in the school community through rugby, debate, and the school plays.

As a parent with two children attending this school, I can confidently say it has been an exceptional choice for our family. From day one, we felt welcomed and supported by the whole school community. The teachers are passionate, dedicated, and truly care about every child’s well-being and development.
They create a nurturing, engaging environment where children are encouraged to thrive academically and socially. The school’s focus on both academic excellence and Christian values helps shape children into kind, confident individuals.

Three of our sons came through Budo. The discipline, friendships and academic rigour are without rival in Uganda.

Phenomenal foundation for life. The friendships I made on the Hill have outlasted everything else. Some dormitories urgently need refurbishment, though.

Academically Budo delivers. But the school is built around boarding life, day boys can feel peripheral to the brotherhood the school speaks about.

We expected the academic rigour. What we did not expect was how attentive the housemasters were when our nephew was struggling in S2. They noticed before we did.
