Praecip Editorial
UNEB released its 2024 results in February, and within a week the league-table claims were everywhere. We pulled the underlying data and matched it against enrolment numbers to ask a different question: which schools improved most, relative to their intake?
Three findings stood out. First, top-end performance at the most-celebrated boys' boarding schools held steady, no school in the top quartile slipped. Second, several mid-table girls' schools posted year-on-year gains in Division 1 counts that nobody talked about. Third, the gap between Kampala and the rest of the country narrowed for the first time since 2019.
Below, we walk through the schools whose UCE 2024 cohort moved the needle, both up and down, and what their headteachers told us when we called.
