Frequently asked questions

Cambridge schools, answered.

What is the Cambridge curriculum?

Cambridge International Education (CIE) is a UK-anchored international curriculum that runs from Cambridge Primary (ages 5–11) through Lower Secondary (11–14), IGCSE / O-Level (14–16) and Cambridge AS & A-Levels (16–19). It is the most widely-taken international curriculum in Uganda after UNEB.

What is the difference between IGCSE and UCE?

IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is the Cambridge equivalent of UCE, sat at the end of Year 11. Pupils typically take 7–9 IGCSE subjects, each graded A*–G. Universities worldwide recognise IGCSEs, and most Cambridge-curriculum schools in Uganda also coach pupils through Cambridge A-Levels for university entry.

Are Cambridge schools recognised by Ugandan universities?

Yes. Cambridge A-Level qualifications are recognised by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) for direct entry to Makerere, Kyambogo, Mbarara and other universities. The NCHE publishes a UACE-equivalence table that universities use to convert A-Level grades to UACE points.

How much do Cambridge schools cost?

Cambridge schools sit at the premium end of the Ugandan market. Expect roughly USD 2,500–8,000 per term at primary level and USD 4,000–12,000 per term at secondary level once boarding, meals and exam entries are included. A few mid-tier Cambridge providers come in below this band; the international-school flagships sit well above it.
