An illustrative split of the postings circulating across Praecip-indexed secondary schools. Teaching dominates as you would expect, but the support and leadership tail is larger than most candidates assume.
Teaching
58%Subject teachers across UCE, UACE, Cambridge, IB, French Bac, Montessori and CBSE. Sciences and Maths most chronically under-supplied.
School leadership
14%Heads, deputies, heads of department, programme coordinators. Tenure averages four to seven years at the top tier.
Administration
12%Bursars, registrars, admissions officers, HR leads. The roles parents and inspectors actually deal with.
Support staff
9%Matrons, nurses, librarians, lab technicians, ICT support, catering and grounds staff.
Coaching & pastoral
7%Sports coaches, MDD directors, chaplaincy and counselling roles, often termly contracts rather than full-time.

The same job title pays a different salary in a government school, a Kampala private school and an international curriculum school. Illustrative monthly bands below, including the allowances that are easy to miss in a base-salary comparison.
Government & UPE/USE schools
Set centrally by the Ministry of Public Service on the U-scale. Predictable, pensionable, and at the lower end of the market.
