A school that admits only male learners. We list schools that are boys-only at the level of admission, regardless of whether the campus shares a site with a girls' sister school. Co-educational schools, even those that maintain separate boys' and girls' boarding houses, are not included here.
King's College Budo, Namilyango College, St. Mary's College Kisubi (SMACK), Busoga College Mwiri, Kibuli SS, Ntare School, Mbarara High School, St. Joseph's College Layibi and St. Peter's College Tororo are among the most established and competitive boys' schools, with strong UCE/UACE performance and active old-boys networks.
The historic boys' schools are almost all boarding, often with a long tradition behind it. Newer private boys' schools more commonly offer both day and boarding. Five-day boarding (Monday–Friday) is becoming more common as urban parents balance structure with home time.
The most competitive boys' schools (Budo, Namilyango, SMACK) typically expect a PLE Aggregate of 4–6 for direct S1 entry. Government-aided boys' schools further down the ladder cut off between Aggregate 8 and 14 depending on the year. Cut-offs are published per school on Praecip where confirmed.
